It's no longer a secret, for two years now, Rachel has taken an eco-responsible shift. We recognize the environmental perils of the fashion industry, it is Rachel’s mission to be part of the solution to reduce the impact of fashion on the environment.
This is how a series of initiatives and changes have been put in place to make things happen. Development of eco-friendly products like tights made with recycled nylon, skirts made with Eco vero..., use of 100% compostable packaging, eradication of virgin plastic from our supply chain, constant improvement of our traceability processes...
Our new initiative: carbon neutral orders
You have the option of making your order carbon neutral.
For Earth day, this 22 april, Rachel will bear the costs.
How it works?
You'll see, it's easy! Once your shopping is done, in your shopping cart, you will have the option to add, or not, the slight extra to make your order carbon neutral.
If you have any questions about this, send us a message and we'll be happy to tell you more about this new initiative.
The older we get, the more seriously Rachel takes its growing responsibility to maximize the positive impact of its products. We have long been convinced that we can be both a great business and a great corporate citizen. In fact, we believe that we can no longer be one without the other.
Corporate social responsibility is embedded in our DNA.
From today, we have decided to offer a solution to the carbon emissions emitted during the delivery of our products with the aim of reducing our footprint and, too, helping to achieve carbon neutrality.
What is a carbon neutral order?
Being human means releasing planet-warming carbon emissions into the atmosphere. It happens when we take a shower, charge our phones, or let out a yawn after a long day. Just like humans release carbon pollution, so do businesses... and unfortunately Rachel is no exception.
Every day in the U.S. alone, e-commerce packages travel about the same distance as going to the moon and back ...133,000 times. Online shopping has transformed retail, much to our delight by the nature of our business. Unfortunately, this also has an impact on the environment, and not for the better. Receiving an online order at your doorstep contributes significantly to climate disturbance.
With our partner Eco Cart, we now offer, for a small (optional) extra added to your basket, to make your orders carbon neutral.
Then you will know, when a Rachel package arrives at your door, that you too have contributed to improving our ecosystem.
How do you compensate for emissions?
For any carbon emissions released into our atmosphere as a result of shipping our products, we invest in projects that reduce carbon emissions by the same amount. It’s almost like we’re giving the planet an IOU, then immediately paying it back.
So with each order placed, by selecting the carbon neutral of your order, you will buy “offsets” that will support environmental projects.
Protecting the Amazon rainforest
Specifically, at Rachel, we decided to invest in the protection of the Amazon rainforest, in order to prevent deforestation of pristine rainforest in the Amazon basin, protecting some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats. Tropical forests are the most biodiverse habitats on Earth, home to 70% of the Earth's species of plants and animals. Eco Cart projects work with communities and local groups to help protect ecosystem services while providing alternative models of economic development which avoid the destruction of the forest.
