October is here and if you haven't figured out your Halloween costume yet, you better get on that! Like, right now.
This year, skip the cheesy Halloween store (and their cheap itchy fabrics), and create your own costume from scratch! Nothing is better than creating your own costume - à la DIY - and slaying your upcoming Halloween party.
If you're having trouble thinking of a costume idea, I have one up my sleeve that I think you're going to love: A DIY flapper costume!
Below, I broke down all the elements of this costume for you to recreate for yourself!
What you’ll need:
Step 1: Snag a sparkly dress
When creating your flapper costume, the first place to start is with the dress (think feminine and sparkly). I opted for a cute silver sequin dress from Zara for $49. Not a sequin kind of girl? You can also do fringe, feathers, or beads for an on-point flapper costume.
Step 2: Don't forget your tights
No flapper costume is complete without a pair of tights. These 1920's ladies really knew what sophistication was, so don't forget a pair of chic black tights to help pull together your costume. I paired my flapper costume with Rachel’s Bow Back Seam Tights for an extra feminine touch.
Step 3: Gloves on
A fine pair of long gloves is just what your costume needs for a touch of elegance and class. Don't be caught without your gloves, darling. They make a statement and will give your costume the oomph it needs.
Step 4: Layer on those accessories
What do all flappers have in common? They love accessories and jewelry, so don't shy away! Drench yourself in pearls, top your hair with feathers, scarves or dainty headbands, and wear all your finest pieces. Pro tip: Use your own jewelry and hair accessories and just layer them on to save on your costume! Just keep in mind, more is more for your flapper costume!
Voila! You flapper outfit is complete for less than $100!
